About EMI Calculator India

An EMI calculator estimates the regular payment for a reducing-balance loan using the loan amount, annual interest rate and repayment tenure. It helps you compare loan scenarios before evaluating an actual lender offer.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the loan amount.
  2. Enter the annual interest rate.
  3. Enter the repayment tenure in years.
  4. Review monthly EMI, total interest and total repayment.

EMI calculator example: ₹10 lakh loan

For a ₹10,00,000 loan at 9% annual interest over five years, a standard monthly reducing-balance model gives an EMI of approximately ₹20,758. Total payments would be about ₹12.46 lakh, including roughly ₹2.46 lakh in interest.

Lender fees, insurance, rate changes and rounding may change the actual repayment schedule.

Calculation methodology

The EMI estimate uses the standard reducing-balance formula with a monthly interest rate and the selected number of monthly payments.

Formula / calculation model

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n / [(1 + r)^n − 1], where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly payments.

Important assumptions and limitations

Actual lender schedules can include fees, insurance, rate resets, rounding and other charges. Floating-rate loans can change EMI or tenure when rates change.

Frequently asked questions

How is EMI calculated?

For a standard reducing-balance loan, EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly payments.

Does a lower interest rate reduce EMI?

Yes. Keeping the loan amount and tenure unchanged, a lower interest rate generally reduces the EMI and total interest.

Does a longer tenure reduce EMI?

Usually yes, but a longer tenure can increase the total interest paid because the loan remains outstanding for more months.

Does this calculator include bank fees?

No. Processing fees, insurance, legal charges, taxes and other lender-specific costs are not included unless they are part of the loan amount you enter.
